There are millions of people playing online video games today. What does this propose then to the entrepreneurial spirit that possesses a home business? This might suggest that this massive platform, holding millions of men and women, is a perfect place for opportunity to flourish. Take Facebook, for example, and its many gaming apps, and millions of daily users, why, to the entrepreneur, success would seem inevitable. Why not, there are many successful companies that use games to advertise their products, or services or teams, such as Red Bull, Nascar, and more. And…it works, so why not use online gaming to promote your home business?

But, we are talking about network marketing here and not traditional business. This is about people who want to become their own boss, and about people who like to play video games online coming together. So, it should be a sure win, right? Well, you’d be dead wrong if you said yes – at least, right away.

Some educational things happen when playing online video games and network marketing cross paths. Let’s take a look at the effects…

Efusjon Learns A Big Lesson

A company called Efusjon Energy Club released a game application to Facebook in July of 2009 called RAD. Cool game. But, too cool apparently for the children playing it. Efusjon learned a hard lesson about mixing online gaming with network marketing, or should I say with network marketers – which is where the real issue was.

The whole concept of playing games online went out the window, seemingly, which was due to poor downline communication, overall. This happens with a young company and with young leaders. All of a sudden it was no longer a game app, for sharing and socializing with, and having fun, but a “Business tool that would make every distriutor RICH overnight!” (note: The company never claimed this, just some inexperienced networkers did)

Deep breath please….

Q: How on earth was it suppose to make everyone rich overnight, anyway?
A: It couldn’t, and didn’t.
Q: Why, was the game app bad?
A: No.
Q: Was the company or product bad?
A: No.
Q: What was the problem then?
A: People – as usual.

True business owners are not moved or driven by HYPE. They are patient and strategize and lean on facts not fiction. They plan for longevity. Every tool has a place and purpose. With RAD, many seemed to forget the basic sharing, networking principle. It was a game and games are to be enjoyed. However, The ability to invite people quickly went from 16/day to 4/day, then the game app was finally removed by Efusjon. Was it a failure and flop, yes and no! One could say, – That’s Business!

Everyone had a lesson to learn. It is a great concept and it does work, if the entrepreneur can learn how to use the tool put in his or her hands. But, RAD was like putting a skill saw in the hand of a child. What was in the minds of the distributor was business growth instead of friendship and relationship building. Here business first, pleasure later did not work. Fun first!

There is a huge hole in the network marketing industry today, called education, or training. Most educational institutions educate people on how to be great employees, not employers. The home business industry is a “Be Your Own Boss” industry, a concept not known or experienced by most who jump into the home biz arena. A lack of training seems to be the biggest culprit in the huge dropout rate that occurs in network marketing.

Many realize to be successful you have to become a go getter, whether at slow speed, medium speed or fast. A person must work at it. Let’s say this first that to be excited about a product and service alone is not enough. Needed?, Oh yes! But many find communicating that excitement to be rather challenging. Why? The excitement gets mixed with the wrong ingredients and disaster occurs. Wrong being the, salesy “join me and my opportunity” syndrome. The chasing down of friends and family and the inundation of “Need More Money emails.”

Every Network Marketer Needs Training

Let us answer a question, why training. Some say you need none, others say, you do. With this, the type of training needs to be defined. Using a product and service is pretty much self explanatory, unless it is sophisticated. Some compensation plans are the same, but most are complicated enough and require training. So where does the training really need to be directed? Training then is needed in the following areas:

  • Comp plans – get to know it so you can plan your goals to maximize its potential.
  • Products/services – what are the benefits, various selections or flavors, ingredients, etc….
  • Tools – conference calls, live company events, company videos and flipcharts,  3-way calling, etc.
  • Online Marketing – blogging, advertising, social networking, articles, and much more….
  • Personal Development – books, CD’s, DVD’s – get interested in your market! This increases a persons value by adding knowledge. Knowledge that others are looking for. The one who holds the knowledge  holds the success.

In part 2 we will discuss how this company called Efusjon took what appeared to be a flop experience with the Facebook game application RAD and created an explosive forerunner that now seems destined to successfully marry network marketing and online gaming together.
